Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Senior Councilman Anthony Santino have announced that a storm water drain and road improvement project along Albern Avenue has commenced and will near completion in late fall. The enhancements will provide increased safety for area residents and beautify the neighborhood.
"Improving Hempstead Town's infrastructure is a key priority in ensuring that our neighborhoods remain great places in which to live and raise families," said Murray.
The project will include the construction of new concrete curbs, concrete driveway aprons, concrete sidewalks, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, improvements to the storm drain system, new asphalt pavement, and the restoration of disturbed grass areas. An important aspect of this project is the elevation of the roadway and storm drains to prevent tidal flooding.
"A clear benefit of roadway improvements is the consequential reduction in repair and maintenance costs," commented Santino. "Elevating the roadway in this area will also help with area flooding."
During the construction process, the town and its contractor will take all possible measures to limit the inconvenience to residents. However, at times during the renovation work some traffic interruptions and temporary disuse of sidewalks and driveways may occur.
"Road improvement projects are just one way the Town of Hempstead is improving the quality of life for residents," concluded Murray.
