Councilman Anthony J. Santino of East Rockaway was re-elected to his fifth term as a member of the Hempstead Town Board in the November 2009 general election, winning 64 percent of the vote. He was first-elected to a four-year term as a councilman in November 1993 and re-elected by wide margins in 1997, 2001 and 2005. He also won the 2000 special election for town council called when the Town of Hempstead switched from an at-large system of council representation to the current district system. He is the senior member of the Hempstead Town Board.
